The Competence Academy
The competence pathway
A pathway that recognises the specialist knowledge, experience and awareness mixer drivers and hauliers bring to these vehicles. Offered by STLA through the Competence Academy.
What it recognises
Experience that already sits on the job.
The pathway is for mixer drivers and hauliers. It recognises the specialist knowledge and awareness these vehicles demand: the drum, the load, the site, and the judgement that only comes from doing the work.
STLA offers the training through the Competence Academy. The Academy is part of STLA, not a company of its own. It takes the skill a driver or haulier already has and sets it out so an employer can see it.
Driver CPC hours are counted only where a licensed centre has filed that course. This pathway is not a second CPC, and STLA does not issue Driver CPC.

Drivers
For the person on the drum, the chute and the site. A pathway written for the job they actually do.
Transport managers
For the manager responsible for a specialist fleet. This pathway does not replace the statutory transport manager qualification.
Manufacturers and Maintenance Providers
For the people who build, maintain and keep the vehicles on the road.
